Columbian Theatre - Show Detail

The Columbian Theatre and Wamego Public Library, is delighted to announce a series of workshops led by the esteemed National Gold Medal Watercolor Artist, Sharon McKittrick Boyle. The series is sponsored by the Edna Mae Peddicord Trust.

The adult session (for ages 16+) will take place on Thursday, September 12 at 6:30 pm. This class is offered free to the first 24 registrants in the Columbian Theatre Swogger Gallery.

Sharon McKittrick Boyle, an award-winning art teacher and portrait painter, has been passionately teaching adults the joys of creating with paper, paint, glue, scissors, and clay for the past ten years. Known for her engaging and welcoming teaching style, Sharie brings her joy of creating to each class.

For the past seven years, Sharon has taught on board Cunard and Oceania Cruise Liners, traveling to destinations including the United Kingdom, Germany, Thailand, Australia, New Zealand, India, Egypt, Oman, Malta, Israel, Spain, Italy, Greece, Tunisia, and throughout the USA. As the inaugural Fine Arts Department Chair at Freedom High School, she was nominated by her students as a Disney Outstanding Teacher. She has also contributed to continuing education at Northern Virginia Community College, teaching drawing and watercolor.

Currently, Sharon serves as the Artist in Residence at her local community library and has led the Watercolor Collaborative for the past eight years. As a Signature Artist with the Virginia Watercolor Society, she has received awards in national and international juried shows, with her portraits held in private collections. Her painting "Beautiful Swimmer" was recently featured on the cover of the National Watercolor Society newsletter.

In addition to her watercolor portraits, Sharon regularly creates lessons using paper clay, collage, origami, pop-up and book design, and contemporary fabric batik. She is eagerly anticipating her workshops in Wamego, Kansas, in 2024.
